- Use a tie rod separator tool to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Be sure to follow the tool manufacturer's instructions carefully to prevent damage to the steering knuckle or tie rod end.
- Count the number of turns it takes to remove the old tie rod end from the inner tie rod, then remove the old tie rod end from the inner tie rod.
- Take the new Motorcraft Outer Tie Rod and thread it onto the inner tie rod the same number of turns that were required to remove the old tie rod end.
- Reinstall the new tie rod end onto the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Install a new cotter pin and bend the ends to prevent it from coming loose.
- Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
- Test drive the vehicle to ensure that the new outer tie rod is working properly.
This installation is a moderately difficult job that can take several hours to complete, even for an experienced mechanic. It is recommended to seek assistance from a qualified automotive technician if you do not have experience in working with suspension or steering components. Warranty Covers only one replacement in the warranty period. Multiple Replacements are not covered, after one replacement warranty will no longer be in effect.
Warranty Is nontransferable and is only valid for the VIN number of the vehicle for which it was purchased. Warranty does not transfer to the new owner of the item purchased or the vehicle purchased with the item installed.
