The 1996-2003 Ford 7.3 Diesel is a powerful and reliable vehicle, but to keep it running at its best, it is important to use the correct replacement parts. One such essential component is the thermostat.
Installation Instructions:
-
Allow the engine to cool down completely before starting the replacement process.
-
Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the thermostat housing. It is typically found near the top of the engine block and connected to the upper radiator hose.
-
Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing in place.
-
Carefully remove the housing, taking care not to damage the gasket or any other surrounding components.
-
Remove the old thermostat from the housing and discard it.
-
Clean the housing and the engine block mating surfaces with a clean rag to remove any debris, gasket material or old adhesive.
-
Install the new thermostat into the housing with the spring side facing down toward the engine.
-
Reinstall the housing, making sure to properly align it with the mating surface on the engine block.
-
Tighten the bolts back into place, ensuring they are properly torqued to manufacturer specifications.
-
Refill the cooling system with the recommended coolant and check for any leaks.
